Exam Structure and Content

The PMP exam consists of 180 questions and candidates have 230 minutes (3 hours and 50 minutes) to complete it. The exam includes two 10-minute breaks for computer-based tests.

The questions are a combination of multiple-choice, multiple responses, matching, hotspot, and limited fill-in-the-blank formats. The exam content is based on the PMP Examination Content Outline (ECO), which reflects the evolving role of project managers. It covers three main domains:

  • People (42%): Focuses on the skills and activities associated with effectively leading a project team.
  • Process (50%): Reinforces the technical aspects of successfully managing projects.
  • Business Environment (8%): Highlights the connection between projects and organizational strategy.

Approximately half of the exam questions will represent predictive project management approaches, while the other half will represent agile or hybrid approaches. These different methodologies are integrated throughout the three domains, emphasizing real-world scenarios and the practical application of project management principles.
