Business analysis is critical in project management and involves identifying business needs, managing requirements, and creating solutions that deliver value to stakeholders. Here's an overview of key aspects of the PMI-PBA exam:

1. Purpose

The PMI-PBA certification is designed for business analysts who work with projects or programs, or project and program managers who work with analytics. It highlights the ability of these professionals to effectively manage and deliver on requirements that come from various stakeholders, thereby driving successful outcomes.

2. Eligibility

Candidates for the PMI-PBA certification need to meet certain educational and professional experience requirements. These include:

  • A high school diploma, associate's degree, or global equivalent along with 7,500 hours of business analysis experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree or global equivalent, paired with 4,500 hours of business analysis experience.
  • In both cases, 35 contact hours of education in business analysis are required.

3. Exam Format and Content

The PMI-PBA exam consists of 200 multiple-choice questions, which must be completed within four hours. The questions are distributed across five domains:

  • Needs Assessment: Identifying a problem or opportunity, defining the value of a solution, and determining the feasibility of project initiatives.
  • Planning: Planning the requirements management process, the tools and techniques to be used, and the metrics to measure success.
  • Analysis: Eliciting, analyzing, and documenting requirements, verifying and validating the outcomes.
